As smart security specialists, we strive to continually evolve our range to introduce new and exciting products, offering wider functionality, and better user experiences.

Due to the nature of digital technology, there comes a point where a product or software can’t be developed any further and it is no longer possible to provide further support. This applies to most, if not all digital technologies including phones and apps for example. When this happens, in the best interests of our customers, we have to change the platforms we use.

This unfortunately means that some of our Y-cam products have reached the end of their life and it’s no longer viable for these products to continue to operate on their existing platforms from 3 October 2023.

WHY IS Y-CAM BEING RETIRED?

The Y-cam platform and devices have been providing secure connections between the cameras, our platform, and apps.

As happens with most, if not all digital technologies, the software used to provide our services has now reached a point where we cannot continue to update them to ensure your security and protection.

CAN I STILL USE MY CAMERA AFTER IT HAS BEEN RETIRED?

Once the service has been retired, camera(s) will no longer be able to provide a live stream, or record video on motion detection.

What happens to footage access once the subscription ends?

Once the service has ended, if you have an active subscription, your video clips will be stored as follows:

7 Day Storage Plan - Video clips will be stored up to 10 October 2023. Clips will be automatically removed at the end of the 7th rolling day.

Plus Plan - Video clips will be stored up to 2 November 2023. Clips will be automatically removed at the end of the 30th rolling day.

When will the Y-cam services and products stop working?

As of 3 October 2023, camera(s) will no longer be able to provide a live stream, or record video on motion detection.

If you are unsure, you can check the model of your camera within the settings section in the App or contact us for further support.

What will happen to the already paid subscriptions?

For customers with monthly subscriptions - we will automatically cancel your renewal in their last month of service, preventing further charges.

For customers with annual subscriptions - we will automatically cancel your renewal in the last month of service, and process pro-rated refunds for the months remaining.

How are ERA Protect products different to Y-Cam?

Although currently secure, Y-cam services are based on older technology dating back 10 years. due to the nature of digital technology, there comes a point where a product or software can’t be developed any further and it is no longer possible to provide further support.

ERA Protect offers a full ecosystem of more modern smart security products.

The ERA Protect platform and the majority of our products have been awarded the BSI Internet of Things (IoT) Kitemark, which is a symbol of trust and quality.

Do ERA Protect cameras need a subscription?

It is not mandatory to have a subscription. You will still be able to view the live feed, but not record and store footage. That requires a subscription package.

Subscription packages are available for ERA Protect cameras.
