5 ways to improve your home security at Christmas

Five tips to improve your home security during Christmas and New Year.

Whether you’re reading this with days to go or the night before Christmas (did you wrap those presents yet?), one thing that might not be on your mind is your home security.

Here at ERA Protect, we want to make sure that loved ones and any presents left under the Christmas Tree by Santa Claus are safe to unwrap and enjoy over the festive period.

Yet, according to national statistics, there will be over 18,000 burglaries this December and will cost the UK £7.8 million.

So, Here’s five things you can do to make sure you can still deck the halls without hearing the bells of the alarm going off this Christmas:

    1. Don’t share it on social media

We know it’s hard to resist the temptation of sharing with your followers the wonderful and unexpected presents Santa might have got you this year, but this can be a free advert for burglars to know what you have got a home.

Keep it off public profiles and if needed, share it on private channels.

    2. Keep it out of sight

Santa comes down the chimney or uses his magic key to put the presents under the tree. But is there a way you could keep them off show?

If you have a Christmas tree near a window, could the presents be covered up or hidden?

Think about the presents you may have unwrapped on Christmas Day. Try and keep anything valuable out of sight. It might deter unwanted visitors from snooping into your ho

     3. No window displays in your car

Keeping presents hidden in your car? If you have bought any presents for family and friends, leave them out of sight in your car. Lock them away in your boot.

When leaving a car unattended during this busy festive season, leaving newly bought gifts on display might encourage tempted culprits to see if they can snap them out of your vehicle.

     4. Look like you’re in when you’re out

Planning to go away this Christmas? Make your home look busy when you’re not in.

Burglars prefer to raid empty homes, and with the bounty potentially on offer during Christmas, you don’t want to be at risk.

Look to purchase timer switches, which can automatically turn your lights on during certain times of the day, creating the illusion that someone is at home.

     5. Deter criminals with smart home security

When it comes to smart home security, we know what we’re talking about.

Installing a home alarm system can help prevent unwanted visitors from attempting to go near your home.

Here at ERA Protect, we have a wide range of smart home security systems to suit different properties and sizes. From smart home alarm kits, wireless outdoor cameras, floodlight camera, smart accessories and more.

Sure up your home security before Christmas with our smart security range.
